July Merry Macs were HOT again this year, but this year…WE GOT BREEZE!

It was a really great showing of 11 Merry Macs
and 1 Handy Cat on the line at July’s Regatta!
Len Small’s Family from just up the river help start Great Bay Yacht Club.
His grandson Jeremy sailed well enough to get first place over all, and with a round robin crew of Len’s great-grandchildren.
Now that’s history of four generations at the Club!

Here’s a few photos from the RC Chumly.

A new donation to the Club looking right at home in her new digs!

Thanks to all the sailors for braving the heat, well worth it this time! See you all again for the August Regatta, Sunday the 23nd!

Spring Lasers!

Eight Lasers showed for the GBYC Spring Laser Regatta, a pretty good showing considering the times we find ourselves in.

The breeze was all over the place. RC could not have done it without the GBYC Mark Boats. Huge thanks to Mike Sullivan, Greg Costanza, and Gene Grossi. They worked their butts off!

With Social Distancing in mind, the usual GBYC BBQ was nixed in favor of, what else?
Italian Takeout!
Laurie Macintosh & Ron Walton took orders at the Skippers’ Meeting and ran for the food.
Thank you Laurie & Ron.

Perennial Laser Champ Peter Follansbee once again put on a clinic with four out of five bullets. The rest of the fleet mixed it up all day. We also had a couple of new to GBYC Lasers, though they certainly showed us they were not new to racing!

We now look forward to the GBYC Fall Laser Regatta in early October!

Youtube from yesterday!

Greg Costanza, one of the Mark Boat guys, took time to put these together:

2020 Season COVID-19 Updates

Greetings, all. In response to the current pandemic, a number of 2020 dates have been pushed out.

Docks-In, originally scheduled for April 25, is postponed to May 23 (high tide at 2 PM). As we get closer to that date we will confirm.

The Spring Social scheduled for May 2 is postponed until it’s safe for Newick’s and other restaurants to reopen.

The Laser Regatta planned for June 7 will be confirmed in May. It may need to be moved out.

Club moorings are still expected to be set up by May 1. We will also get the port-a-potty and water turned on.

Members are welcome to come down to the club in the near term, with the common sense to avoid crowds and maintain appropriate distance. Volunteers are welcome to rake up the beach grass deposited on shore and other spring tidying up.

Hopefully we’ll have an ‘End of Sequestration” party on the deck later this year!!!
